Site Progress - October

With all of the building structures up, the construction team are working hard to build the walls and roofs of the remaining buildings. The café now has its copper roof and the external partitions are being erected. These have framed the incredible views created by the large north and west facing windows giving a glimpse of what the space will be like when complete.

Work is underway to the boathouse roof over the wet dock. The new boathouse will be lined in timber creating a beautiful space reminiscent of the traditional boathouses around Windermere. The dry dock within the exhibition space has also now been cast in concrete so we can begin to see where the boats will be displayed.

More groundworks are underway to provide the vital infrastructure for drainage across the site. This includes a reed bed which is a key part of the sustainability strategy for the museum. The reed bed will naturally filter the surface water from around the museum creating cleaner water and a new habitat for wildlife.

You can hear more about what the museum will be like in this video created by pupils from the Lakes School as part of our school programme, the Esperance Project.
