From June to September, Blackwell celebrates the magical children’s tale of Swallows and Amazons. Inspired by the Lake District, Arthur Ransome’s classic novel is brought to life with an exhibition featuring props from the 2016 film, including the magnificent Swallow and Amazon boats perched upon the Blackwell lawns. The Harbour Pictures' collection will be displayed alongside unique Ransome objects from the archives of the Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry. Following the exhibition, the Swallow and Amazon boats will be brought to Windermere Jetty for display during summer 2018.
Throughout the exhibition there are activities for the whole family to enjoy, with daily crafts, trails and family-friendly events. Discover an indoor recreation of the Walker children’s campsite on Wild Cat Island and join our resident storyteller every Wednesday to immerse yourself in the adventures as imagined by Arthur Ransome.
